The weather's getting colder, and it's almost time to break out those scarves and gloves for the winter.

But the prospect of covering up your fingers from winter's chills raises a vexing conundrum for Blackberry and iPod addicts.

Have you tried sending a text message or using a touchscreen with gloves on?

Taking the Michael Jackson approach to the problem, and wearing just one glove, would eventually freeze your dialing hand.

As for fingerless gloves, they almost defeat the purpose of gloves: to keep your fingers warm.

It turns out, though, there are in-between options for gadget-lovers trying to protect their digits.

London-based Etre, Ltd. sells a line of wool gloves called Touchy. They have the thumb and index finger removed for easy cell phone or PDA-fiddling, and sell for around $33.

Or, for those who must have all 10 fingers covered, North Face sells pairs of $40 iPod-compatible gloves called Etip.

The thumb and forefinger are lined with a special material called X-STATIC® that allows you to spin those clickwheels or touchscreens without using your bare hands.

An Etip won't make it any easier to push the tiny buttons on a Blackberry-style Smartphone, though.

And of course, there's always the option of waiting until you're indoors to play with your portable electronics.
